Sheen's interviews upstage Oscars a day after:
The interviews heightened the competition between the network morning shows. Sheen gave his interview to ABC on Saturday, and the network said it was under the impression he wouldn't speak to any other network over the weekend because it planned a "20/20'" special on Tuesday, but Sheen spoke to NBC on Sunday.

Favorite moment from last night: @ShiraLazar refers to Andrew Garfield as Steve Garfield on the #Oscars iPad live stream.
It would have been nice if the control room cam was not broadcast on a delay.
I would have liked to have seen a raw feed of the host cam, instead they had a director choosing camera shots for that cam.
The live red carpet cam reminded me of last year's Oscars where I was on the red carpet, as a guest of Kodak, in seat 1, row 1 and doing some live streaming via Ustream.

Peter Guber: Business storytelling must be done in person
Like a Hollywood movie, he figured out, the stories that drive professional life — the narrative that is part of pitches, résumés, introductions and every conversation about business goals and achievements — work best when they are grounded in emotion. By and large, they require a hero. Dramatic tension and even a few props help...His new book:
In sorting that out, Mr. Guber spent time in Papua New Guinea, watching tribesmen do business, in their way, via story.
From his fellow tribal leaders in Hollywood — an especially tactile culture, where lunch is less a meal than a ritual — he learned one of his more ironclad lessons, that business storytelling must be done in person, by people who, as he puts it, sniffing loudly, “are breathing the same air.”
SCREENS and telephone lines, he said, don’t let you flesh out the story with body language, shared emotion and the occasional resort to extreme measures.

Wonder how the Thunderbolt port will be used for video streaming.
Also looking forward to trying out FaceTime HD.

Trying to Watch The Social Network at Home
At first I thought I'd watch The Social Network via Netflix and add it to my queue.
But when I last went to check, I saw that it was a very long wait.
And it's not available for streaming.
Next try, Amazon.
Amazon: Video On Demand - Streaming
I've got Amazon.com on Demand video on my TiVo. When I chose to watch the movie, I was asked for a 4 digit PIN #. I didn't know my PIN #. D'oh!
Time to head to the computer.
Amazon: Video On Demand - Download
I went over to my computer and chose to Download the movie to my Tivo.
Then I went to the TiVo to see the status of the download. Nothing.
Watched last week's Glee, then took a look at NOW PLAYING. The Social Network was not there.
Ended up giving up and checked mail.
Download Failed
There were a number of failure messages telling me that my Tivo didn't have enough room on it to download The Social Network.
Greetings from the Amazon Video on Demand Team! After making room, the download started.
Thank you for your recent order from Amazon Video on Demand. Please note that we were unable to download your Amazon Video on Demand video to your TiVo box at this time because it does not have enough available disk space.
To download your Amazon Video on Demand video to your TiVo box, please take the following steps:
Free up disk space on your TiVo box
To make space, delete programs which have been recorded in the last 48 hours or which you have set to "Keep until I delete" (look for the green dot)
To make room for a 2 hour Amazon Video on Demand video, you should delete at least:
- 1 hour of programming recorded at TiVo's Best Quality setting
- 1 1/2 hours at the "High Quality" setting
- 2 hours at the "Medium Quality setting", or
- 4 hours at the "Basic Quality" setting
Restart the download of your video from Amazon Video on Demand Your Video Library...
Your video should begin downloading to your TiVo DVR within 15 minutes
Links to additional information about the Amazon Video on Demand on TiVo service are below for your reference.
Thank you for shopping with Amazon Video on Demand on TiVo.
Note: It cost $3.99 to download to my TiVo via the computer vs. $4.99 to download directly from the TiVo.
Feedback to Amazon
So I gave some feedback to Amazon.com suggesting that they send the failure message direct to the TiVo box Messages.
Amazon Responds
Amazon wrote right back:
Thanks for suggesting that we add the ability to send an error message such as the insufficient space to the TiVo messages directly, to Video On Demand. Customer feedback like yours is very important in helping us continue to improve the experience of watching our digital videos.Nice fast response.
I appreciate your thoughts and I have forwarded your suggestion to the Video On Demand team.
Thanks for using Amazon Video on Demand.
I'll be Watching - Very Soon
The Social Network is now on my TiVo. I'll be watching it shortly. Very shortly it seems since it's going to be deleted from my TiVo tomorrow!
Where would you go to watch The Social Network?

You can test Skype Group Video Calling with both a Mac or PC running Skype.
Image: Courtesy Skype
System requirements:
Group video calls can be between three or more people (up to a maximum of 10). For the best quality, we recommend calls with up to five people.Windows users need to be running Skype for Windows 5.1 or later.
For the best video quality, we recommend you use a high-speed broadband connection of 4 Mbps down/512 kpbs up and a computer with a Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz processor. The minimum you'll need is a high-speed broadband connection of 512 kbps down/128 kpgs up and a computer with a 1 GHz processor.
Mac users need to be running Skype for Mac 5.0 or later.
I'm going to be testing this later today.

"There are moments in history when just because things were the same way in the past doesn’t mean they will be that way in the future."
Great NY Times write up about the Egypt uprising, Dual Uprisings Show Potent New Threats to Arab States:
According to American officials, senior members of the government in Saudi Arabia argued that the United States should back Mr. Mubarak even if he used force against the demonstrators. By Feb. 1, when Mr. Mubarak broadcast a speech pledging that he would not run again and that elections would be held in September, Mr. Obama concluded that the Egyptian president still had not gotten the message.Interesting insight into Egyptian military actions:
Within an hour, Mr. Obama called Mr. Mubarak again in the toughest, and last, of their conversations. “He said if this transition process drags out for months, the protests will, too,” one of Mr. Obama’s aides said.
Mr. Mubarak told Mr. Obama that the protests would be over in a few days.
Mr. Obama ended the call, the official said, with these words: “I respect my elders. And you have been in politics for a very long time, Mr. President. But there are moments in history when just because things were the same way in the past doesn’t mean they will be that way in the future.”
The next day, heedless of Mr. Obama’s admonitions, Mr. Mubarak launched another attack against the protesters, many of whom had by then spent five nights camped out in Tahrir Square. By about 2:30 p.m., thousands of burly men loyal to Mr. Mubarak and armed with rocks, clubs and, eventually, improvised explosives had come crashing into the square.
Soldiers of the Egyptian military, evidently under orders to stay neutral, stood watching from behind the iron gates of the Egyptian Museum as the war of stone missiles and improvised bombs continued for 14 hours until about four in the morning.Read more.
Then, unable to break the protesters’ discipline or determination, the Mubarak forces resorted to guns, shooting 45 and killing 2, according to witnesses and doctors interviewed early that morning. The soldiers — perhaps following orders to prevent excessive bloodshed, perhaps acting on their own — finally intervened. They fired their machine guns into the ground and into the air, several witnesses said, scattering the Mubarak forces and leaving the protesters in unmolested control of the square, and by extension, the streets.
Once the military demonstrated it was unwilling to fire on its own citizens, the balance of power shifted. American officials urged the army to preserve its bond with the Egyptian people by sending top officers into the square to reassure the protesters, a step that further isolated Mr. Mubarak.

Has Andy Carvin found the future of fundraising by using his personal brand to generate donations for NPR?
“I’m a friend of Andy, and found myself continuously going back to his Twitter stream over the past few weeks to find out what was happening in Egypt,” Garfield said via e-mail. “I wanted to support NPR in some way for letting Andy explore this new way of reporting.” Since the donation, he’s gotten a tweet, a direct message, and a phone call from WBUR thanking him for his support.Andy's appeal worked because it was personal and he only asked once in 18 days. If he tweeted 400 times a day for 18 days, that would be 7,200 tweets, with just one asking for a donation. That's a good ratio. :-)
#gave4andy: Andy Carvin and the ad hoc pledge drive:
Carvin’s work cultivating sources and sharing their updates has turned curation into an art form, and it’s provided a hint of what news can look like in an increasingly networked media environment. “It really has stood out as an alternative model of news,” says Kinsey Wilson, NPR’s senior vice president and general manager of digital media. It’s also led to earnest talk of a Pulitzer for social media curation (with Carvin, of course, as the prize’s first recipient) and to equally earnest discussions, among Jeff Jarvis and others, of how to translate Carvin’s curatorial prowess into a full-fledged business model.Curating the Revolution: Building a Real-Time News Feed About Egypt:
PC: Do you think curation is a new type, or approach to journalism? Thanks Andy, and thanks to NPR for giving Andy the freedom to tell Egypt's story.
AC: I think curation has always been a part of journalism; we just didn't call it that. Think of the word "media." It's about being in the middle, between the story and the public. The job of a reporter is to capture the most important elements to tell a story, and then go ahead and tell it. Watch any breaking news story on TV and you'll see curation going on. They'll quote sources, pull up clips from wherever, pass along info from pundits, etc. So curation itself isn't new; it's just the way that some of us are doing it online that's fairly new. The tools have evolved, but the goal of capturing a story and turning people's attention to it isn't.

If the "Update Your Kindle" is still dim after you copy the file to your Kindle root directory, the update page gives you these reasons for the cause of the problem:
The update file is in the incorrect directory, or was not transferred successfully. The third option is that you copied the incorrect update file over to your Kindle.
